My process and philosophy
When I work, I take a moment, a memory, a sound and I distill it down to a single point in time before exploding every aspect of that memory into a visual artifact: crystallizing it as paint on canvas.
The very distinct thing about the way I work, and one of the most important things about my process, which is reflective of my hyperthymesia, is that it is exactly like the process of memory itself. My paintings are like the nature of memories. They are completely additive: there could be 30 layers of paint.
You may not see the first 10 layers, but they inform and influence the layers that come later, the same way we build our consciousness through memories.
Those unseen layers of paint are the foundation of what is to come, just like our current personalities as humans are built on the subconscious and our past, and our feelings, and our successes, and our mistakes that form the underlying foundation of who we are.
